Anti-Virus Engine

The PowerMail anti-virus solution is a two-tier system with all email being filtered by two separate anti-virus systems.

Anti-Virus Layer 1

The first AV layer is situated at our network edge so all external incoming email is filtered by our dedicated hardware AV filter. Any emails containing viruses will have the virus removed and placed in quarantine and a notice attached to the offending email listing the file that was removed and why it was removed, these files can be retrieved by contacting us if you feel they have been removed by mistake. Example

"Dangerous Attachment has been Removed. The file "message.src" has been removed because of a virus. It was infected with the "W32/Netsky.P-mm" virus. File quarantined as: "94e6d256."."

Anti-Virus Layer 2

The second AV layer is situated on each mail server and filters all incoming mail from both within and without our network. The advantage of having this two tier system means that any viruses originating from senders within your network or domain are also filtered and quarantined ensuring that you will never have virus's delivered to your inbox.


Anti-Spam Engine

PowerMail Anti-Spam is also a two-tier system that will successfully help to identify nuisance mail but also giving you control so no legitimate mail is blocked.

Anti-Spam Layer 1

Incoming mail is checked against email Spam "Black List's" to check if the sender is listed for sending unsolicited bulk email. If the sender is listed on any blacklists then the email will be returned with a link to the blacklist with the reasons for being listed.

Anti-Spam Layer 2

Layer 2 works on a global domain level so that all email users mail is passed through the antispam filter. Each individual user can then configure their mailbox with their own personal Spam settings. This includes setting the Spam scoring level for each mailbox as well as black and white lists.
