Domain Names
There are three aspects to choosing a domain name:
The choice of Top Level Domain ie. - .uk
• Second Level Domain ie. - .co.uk, .plc.uk or .me.uk
• The name itself .ie netplan.co.uk
Having decided on your domain name, you then need to check whether it is available or whether it has been registered already by
another user. This is done by using the WHOIS service opposite it is an online search facility that provides details of domain name registrations in a matter of seconds.
From looking at the Whois you will be able to see if the domain is registered or available. If the domain is already registered the Whois checker will show you the alternative domains that are available for registration. Some domains with have restrictions on registration for example some country tlds such as .ie require that you are trading in Ireland.
